Where it all started…

Hunters Headquarters was originally called Southern States Enterprises and was located on ByPass 72 West near what is now known as the Pantry Shop.

The business was later purchased by Dale Carwile who was a law enforcement officer for the S.C.D.N.R. The store location was moved just down the street to a newly built 3000 square foot shop and renamed to Hunters Headquarters. The store grew very successfully there for many years. 

It was in 2002 through mutual friends, that Mr. Harris met Mr. Carwile and was able to purchase Hunters Headquarters. Mr. Harris’ first day of business in the existing location was August 1st, 2002. Mr. Carwile worked at Hunters Headquarters as the stores general manager for the next year. Mr. Carwile then pursued a career working with the N.R.A as their S.C. field representative. 

Hunters Headquarters continued to grow in scope and capability as the store secured more brands and products. A major factor in growth occurred when Greg Huges joined the business and brought Matthews Archery along with his wealth of knowledge of archery. It was soon after that Hunters Headquarters was busting at the seams with products and customers and a change of location was needed.

That change came in 2012 with the construction of our new shop  located at 1845 Calhoun Rd. Construction began early in the year and the doors officially opened on August 27, 2012. Another notable addition was the now iconic pistol sign in the shape of a 1911 style pistol. Standing at 15 ft. long and 8 1/2 ft.tall  wrapped in neon and sporting the easy to remember phone number (864) 223-1911. ( perfect phone number for a gun store if you ask me) It serves as the backdrop for many family photos for right minded families. 

Hunters Headquarters is blessed by many conscientious and caring team members and a wealth of customers from Greenwood, surrounding counties and all across the southeast.
